Hi [NAME]!
I’m [NAME], and I live in your neighborhood. As you have probably seen, there’s been an increase in ICE deployments across the country, including in Michigan. I’m talking with our neighbors today about making sure our community is prepared if/when ICE activity reaches our area. Can I take a quick moment to share the resources I have with you?
If neighbor says yes:
Thank you for being open to this. It’s so important that folks know who to call and how to support their impacted neighbors. I have a flyer here for you to keep–it has the hotline phone number to the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC) that you can call to report ICE activity. If you scan this QR code, it will take you to a LinkTree with additional resources. Would you like to try scanning it now while I am here?
If neighbor seems hesitant:
I completely understand. I know this is a very heavy subject. My goal is to make sure that our neighbors have accurate information and know their rights. When communities are able to prepare ahead of time for ICE operations and remain calm, it keeps everyone safer.
I will leave these flyers with you in case you would like to read through them. Even if the situation never arises that you need them, it can be helpful to have them on hand. Thank you!
Closing:
Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. Are you interested in joining a local Indivisible group to help support progressives throughout Michigan?
If neighbor asks a question you can’t answer:
That’s a good question. Though I don’t have the answer for you today, if you reach out to MIRC they may be able to offer you more information.
